The Northrop YC-125 Raider is a 1940s American three-engine STOL utility vehicle manufactured by Northrop Corporation, Hawthorne, California.
C 125 Aircraft
Northrop's first post-war civilian design was a three-engine STOL transport and freighter named the Northrop N-23 Pioneer, which was intended to replace the Ford Trimotors of the Ctral American aircraft Transportes Aéreos Ctro Americanos (TACA). The Pioneer can carry 36 suitcases or cargo with a cargo door and a "groove" that allows 36 feet (11 m) of pipe or wood to be loaded into the cabin. It first flew on December 21, 1946. The aircraft performed well, resulting in an order for 40 aircraft from TACA, but political maneuvering by Pan-Am after the shipping company Waterman Steamship Corporation bought a larger stake in TACA led to TACA lost rights to operate to or from the United States, causing TACA to cancel its order for Pioneer. Despite extensive sales tours, no further orders were received.

Pioneer was lost in a fatal crash on 19 February 1948 when it lost a new type design in flight.
In 1948, the United States Air Force expressed interest in the aircraft of the same configuration and placed an order with Northrop for 23 aircraft, 13 vehicles designated the C-125A Raider and 10 for the Arctic Rescue Service designated the C-125B. With the company name N-32 Raider, the first aircraft flew on August 1, 1949.
The aircraft was powered by 1,200 hp (890 kW) Wright R-1820-99 Cyclone radial engines. The aircraft can also be fitted with JATO missiles, enabling it to be launched at less than 500 feet (150 m). The 13 troop transports are designated YC-125A in-service and YC-125B arctic rescue units.
Delivery of the YC-125 to the USAF began in 1950. These aircraft did not serve long as they were underpowered and they were soon st to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas and relegated to being ground training instructors until their retirement in 1955 and added bonus .

Most of the surplus aircraft were purchased by Frank Ambrose and sold to forestry operators in South and Central America.
The arctic rescue version of the N-32 includes twenty vents and a device for carrying skis. T made (series 48-618 / 627).
Aba Canadair licensed manufactured from 1949, with 3 x Canadian Pratt & Whitney R-1820 engines. The CL-12 was redesigned the same year. The project was dropped sometime in the early 1950s.
Another proposed Canadair variant. Improvements, including replacing three engines with two Allison T56 turboprops, were explored. The project was abandoned in the early 1950s.
